5 Home Remedies to Treat The Flu

Some excellent options for home remedies to reduce the symptoms of the flu, the common cold or H1N1 flu are lemons, echinacea, elderberry, lime or garlic tea because these medicinal plants have anti-inflammatory properties that help to the body to relieve the typical symptoms and improve the discomfort. 

Although in the majority of cases of influenza they improve without a specific treatment, it is always important to consult a general practitioner to identify the problem and initiate the most indicated treatment. None of the teas indicated below should replace medical treatment. 

1. Honey and lemon tea

An excellent natural remedy for flu is lemon tea with honey, as it helps to decongest the nose, keeps the throat lubricated and improves breathing.

  • Juice of 1 lemon:
  • 2 tablespoons of honey;
  • 1 cup of boiling water
Preparation mode
You must add the honey to the cup of boiling water, stir well until it becomes a homogeneous mixture and then add the pure juice of 1 lemon. The tea should be taken right after its preparation, is important to add the lemon juice to the last thing to make sure that the vitamin C present in the fruit does not get lost.
To treat the flu is recommended to take this tea 2 to 3 times a day, for example in the morning snack, in the afternoon and before bedtime.

2. Ginger tea

Ginger fights the flu because of its analgesic, antipyretic and antibacterial properties, which, enhanced with honey and lemon, help to reduce flu symptoms much more quickly.

  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger;
  • 1 tbsp of honey;
  • 1 cup of boiling water;
  • Lemon to taste.
Preparation mode
Chop a spoonful of fresh ginger and add it to the cup of boiling water, leave it to rest for 10 minutes, strain and add 1 tablespoon of honey and a little lemon. 

3. Inhalations with eucalyptus

Eucalyptus is a plant with expectorant properties that helps to open the airways and relieve irritation of the throat.

  • 5 drops of essential oil or eucalyptus leaves;
  • 1 liter of boiling water.
Preparation mode 
Place the drops of eucalyptus essential oil in a bucket with 1 liter of boiling water and inhale the steam for a few minutes. To make the most of it, place a bath towel over your head, so the steam will be trapped and the individual will inspire a greater amount of steam that will help relieve the symptoms.

4. Elderberry tea

Elderberry tea with linden increases the defenses of the organism and promotes sweating, favoring the reduction of fever.

  • 2 tbsp of elder leaves;
  • 1 teaspoon of lime;
  • 1 cup of boiling water
Preparation mode
To prepare this tea you must add elder leaves and linden in the cup of boiling water. Cover and leave resting for 10 minutes. Strain and drink 3 times a day.

5. Garlic tea

Taking garlic tea is also an excellent natural treatment against influenza, because garlic has antimicrobial, analgesic, expectorant and anti-flu properties, as well as being a pulmonary antiseptic. These properties are because it has a compound called allicin and alliin.

  • 3 garlic cloves;
  • 1 tablespoon of honey;
  • 1/2 lemon;
  • 1 cup of water.
Preparation mode
Grind the cloves of garlic and add in a pot in conjunction with the water and leave to boil for 5 minutes. Then add 1/2 squeezed lemon and honey, drink then. It should be taken once a day, for 2 or even 3 weeks.
